Keyboard & Touchpad Tester
Test keyboard keys and touchpad functionality with real-time visual feedback, multi-touch detection, and gesture recognition.
Press any key to start testing
Tip: the Windows key opens the Start Menu (OS-level). Enable Capture Mode to block browser shortcuts (Alt, /, Ctrl+W). Tab is kept for navigation.
Keyboard & Touchpad Tester is a free online tool to check every key on your keyboard and every function of your laptop touchpad — right in your browser, with no download or login. Press keys to see them light up in real time on a realistic laptop layout, watch the live input history to catch stuck or self-firing keys, and switch on Capture Mode to test system keys like Esc, Tab and PrintScreen without triggering your browser's shortcuts.
What makes this keyboard tester different
- ✓Tests both keyboard and touchpad in one place — most online testers do keyboard only.
- ✓Capture Mode blocks browser and system shortcuts (using the Keyboard Lock API) so you can safely test Esc, Tab, Ctrl+W and PrintScreen.
- ✓Realistic laptop (75%) layout with an optional numpad and independent left/right modifier detection.
- ✓Live input history with repeat counts (e.g. “A ×7”) to spot chattering, ghosting or self-firing keys.
- ✓Full touchpad suite: multi-touch points, pinch gestures, scroll, click counters, double-click and a pointer trail.
- ✓100% private — everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
- ✓Available in English and Indonesian and fully keyboard-accessible (WCAG AA).
How to test your keyboard
- Open the Keyboard tab and press every key one by one.
- Each key lights up and turns green once detected; untested keys stay grey.
- Watch the progress counter and input history — a key that repeats on its own (e.g. “A ×7”) points to chatter or a stuck key.
- Enable Capture Mode to test Esc, Tab, function keys and PrintScreen without leaving the page.
How to test your touchpad
- Open the Touchpad tab and move your finger or pointer across the test area to check tracking and dead zones.
- Click the left, middle and right buttons to verify each one; double-clicks are counted separately.
- Use two fingers to test scrolling and pinch-to-zoom; active multi-touch points appear as numbered dots.
When to use it

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this keyboard tester free?
- Yes. It's completely free with no account or download required — open the page and start pressing keys. Everything runs in your browser.
- How do I know if a key is broken?
- Press the key: if it doesn't light up, it isn't registering. If a key fires repeatedly on its own, it appears in the input history with a count like “A ×7”, which indicates chatter or a stuck key.
- What is Capture Mode?
- Capture Mode blocks browser shortcuts (like the Alt menu, Quick Find and Ctrl+W) so keys are tested cleanly. On Chrome and Edge it also goes fullscreen and uses the Keyboard Lock API to capture system keys such as PrintScreen and Esc.
- Why can't the tool block the Windows / Start key?
- The Windows/Start key is reserved by the operating system and cannot be intercepted by any web page. This is a browser/OS limitation, not a bug.
- Can it test my touchpad too?
- Yes. The Touchpad tab tests pointer tracking, left/middle/right clicks, double-click, scrolling, pinch gestures and multi-touch, with a visual pointer trail and click ripples.
- Does it test keyboard ghosting and N-key rollover?
- Yes. Press several keys at once — every key your keyboard reports lights up simultaneously, so you can see how many simultaneous keys (rollover) it supports and whether ghosting occurs.
- Is it safe and private?
- Yes. The tool is 100% client-side: no key data or touchpad data ever leaves your browser, and no login is required.
